Are you a busy mom that doesn’t have anything planned for Valentine’s Day? Is the thought of spending Valentine’s in a crowded restaurant stressing you out? Just like New Year, our society has put much pressure on this hallmark holiday to wear red, get flowers and eat chocolate. I feel like a guilty mom because I have not gotten a gift for my partner, I have no Valentine crafts planned or matching heart outfits for the family. This Valentine’s Day let’s give ourselves the permission to stop thinking about what we “should” do and start planning what we “want” to do. This Valentine’s Day you can have the perfect combination of family fun and romantic alone time. Skip the gifts this year with these 5 alternative experiences.
Movie Night In
Enjoy an all-night movie marathon or a quick flick, grab the blankets, pillows, popcorn, and ice cream and cozy up in front of the TV. After the kids go to bed dim the lights, bring out the candles and watch your favorite romantic movies or get your heart pumping with an action and adventure movie.
Weekend Getaway
Either a staycation or a short travel trip book a hotel for the night. This will help you get out of the house and a change of scenery to spice things up. You can ask the grandparents to watch the kids or take them along like we are.
Blanket Fort or Pitch a Tent
Set up a small tent or create a blanket fort to spend the night in. My husband and I had a blast sleeping in our tent we set up in the basement by projecting stars on the ceiling and listened to nature sounds all night.
Family Spa Day
A relaxing day at the spa may sound like the perfect treat this valentines day, but if that is not possible here is the next best thing. Spend the day enjoying manicures, pedicures, and massages all from the comfort of your own home.
At-Home Cooking Class
Find a virtual cooking class or search online for your favorite recipes to cook alongside your favorite chefs. This is a great family activity but leave room for dessert once the kids are in bed.
Planning experiences rather than gifts takes pressure and stress off this holiday and more energy focused on spending time as a family. Each of these 5 alternative activities can be enjoyed with or without the kids. As parents, we need to get creative on how we spend our time as a family but also as a couple. Here are some creative ways to date your partner with limited time.
